|
|
Probably a question for Scott.
I'm on a Mac OS 10.6
My computer seems to have lost the ability to print a pdf. I can export one no problem but when I try to print, it doesn't ask me where I want it and it doesn't seem to process anything in my print que. The print icon pops into my dock with an exclamation mark in a red circle. It says it is opening in distiller but then doesn't do anything with it.
This gets in the way when booklet printing out of indesign or acrobat. I have also found that printing a pdf is the only way to get cropped pages to stay cropped in Acrobat.
If anyone can help it would be awesome, I just don't feel like my IT guy can solve this. |

Distiller?
Oh, you mean print TO a PDF right?
Sounds like the Adobe PS driver may be faulty. Perhaps reinstall Acrobat Pro. I don't know if Acrobat > Help > Repair Installation would work or not.
Realize it may also be a 10.6 glitch. There are a few, which is why I'm still at 10.5.8 for my primary workstation. _________________ » Scott

I've just spend the last hour trying to reinstall, no luck.
My bosses 10.5.8 does prints to pdf fine, you may be on to something. Anyway to revert to 10.5.8? |

Not without a complete erase and install of 10.5.8 _________________ » Scott

Well in order to remove all traces of the OS.. that would mean the hard drive.
You can't down-grade and OS. You can only install the older OS if an even older OS is present or no OS is present.
In other words, to install Leopard, you must entirely remove Snow Leopard. In order to remove Snow Leopard, you must erase the hard drive. _________________ » Scott

What about getting a new hard drive, installing it, loading leopard and then putting the old hard drive in as an additional drive? Could it boot off the new one but then have access to the files on the old one? I'm not too worried about re-installing the software just keeping the files.
does this sound right to you?
my IT guy says that snow leopard has a problem with ALL third party video cards and that until mac fixes this I can't have a second monitor. He doesn't know anything about macs, so i dont believe him. |

That'll work. You can even install another HDD in one of the internal bays, install 10.5.8 and then just boot from that.
Not sure what video cards he's referring to specifically. I mean, Mac video cards are Mac video cards. There are no third party video cards unless they've been flashed (which I've NEVER trusted). It's pretty much nVidia or ATI for a Mac. I've got 2 nVidia 8800GT cards in my MacPro and there are no issues (other than Snow Leopards color issues with the first two released, 10.6.2 seems to have helped quite a bit) the 10.6.2 upgrade addressed MANY video issues. _________________ » Scott
